Test 3: Uniform rebound
The world’s best midfield playmakers all have one thing in common: they can all trap the ball perfectly and quickly knock it on to their strikers. The skills of Zinedine Zidane, Pavel Nedved and Johan Micoud can make the difference between two teams and often decide matches.
How do you trap the ball and bring it under control as quickly as
The three most common trapping techniques are:
With the foot
When stopping the ball between your foot and the ground, always watch the ball, lift the controlling foot high enough and put the sole of your boot on the ball. The aim is to stop the ball from bouncing.
With the thigh
It is important to cushion the ball. As the ball makes contact with your thigh, you should start to lower it. The ball should then land at your feet.
With the chest
Correct positioning and balance are the key factors that make for effective ball control using your chest. You need to watch the ball carefully until it hits your chest. On contract, lean your upper body forward so that the ball falls straight to your feet.
