The World’s Longest Game Of Football
The world’s longest game of football took place in Necochea, 520 kilometres from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, in October. After 46 hours of play, De la Canal beat opponents Murga 387-335. The two teams bore the names of the men who founded the Atlantic coast city 126 years ago: Victorio De la Canal and Angel Murga. In a game played wholly in the spirit of fair play – the two referees were not required to show a single red card – a total of 1,320 players scored 722 goals. Angel Tellechea, municipal director of sport and organiser of the historic match, is hoping that the world record can be broken again next year when the game is scheduled to take place on 13 October.
