Israel FA visit Home of FIFA

The new President of the Israel Football Association, Avi Luzon, recently paid his first official visit to FIFA headquarters in Zurich since being elected on 18 March. Luzon was accompanied by the Israel FA General Secretary, Haim Zimmer, as he met FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. Those present at the meeting talked about the major issues facing world football today and also praised FIFA’s decision to allow the Israeli national team to play their home matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup TM preliminary competition on Israeli soil. All of Israel’s home matches passed off without incident, as did all other matches played in Israel involving club teams or other national teams. The FIFA Goal Programme was also discussed. Israel’s first project, which involved laying an artificial turf pitch in Nazareth, has been a resounding success and could logically lead to further projects in the future. Furthermore, FIFA commended and thanked the Israel Football Association for its support in helping Palestinian players and officials gain exit visas for international matches. FIFA also provided the Israeli delegation with detailed information on the activities carried out by world football’s governing body in the areas of development, communication, law and finance.
