FIFA in mourning
A total of 114 people lost their lives in a tragic plane crash in Cameroon on 4 May. The victims, included three members of the FIFA family, international referee Martin Omgba Zing and assistant referees Patrice Boungani Doda and Engelbert Effa. In a letter of condolence to the President of the Cameroon football association, Mohamed Iya, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter offered words of sympathy and solidarity on behalf of the international community. The three officials were traveling to a match when the accident occurred.
