Champions League winners

Roberto Carlos – The Brazilian proved against Inter that he has not come to Turkey to go out to pasture. A terrorising display down the left in his all-white kit made it easy to mistake the Sükrü Saraçoglu for the Santiago Bernabeu.
Julio Cesar – The Brazilian keeper saved Inter from serious embarrassment with a string of fine saves. His leap to palm away Alex’s diving header, which was destined for the top corner, was breathtaking.
Cristiano Ronaldo – A goal to mark his return to the club that launched his career gave Manchester United all three points and a decent start to their Champions League campaign. His goal celebration was both touching and humble and was a credit to him.
Kenneth Perez – Changed the game after coming on in the first half due to an injury to Afellay. Made the first goal. Scored the second. Has a great name.
Barcelona’s front three – Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi showed they will be a difficult force to stop this season. Their interplay carved the Lyon back four apart on numerous occasions. Messi’s close control saw him beat countless defenders, while Ronaldinho looked back to his best after an underwhelming season last time round.
