English giants Manchester United generated a record turnover of GBP 245 million (EUR 277.5 million) in the 2006-2007 financial year, a 27% increase on the same figure from 2005-2006. Whereas matchday income rose by 30% to GBP 92.6 million (EUR 122.4 million), the club’s media revenue jumped to GBP 61.5 million (EUR 81.3 million) and sponsorship income increased to GBP 56 million (EUR 73.9 million). The club also posted a 90% increase in pre-tax profits from GBP 30.8 million (EUR 40.7 million) in 2005-2006 to GBP 59.6 million (EUR 78.7 million) in 2006-2007. Players’ salaries accounted for 43.6% of the club’s turnover, however. Chief Executive David Gill is also-confident that the Premier League’s new television deal and Manchester United’s new sponsorship sales structure will see yet more growth in the years to come.
