FIFA And LOC Medical Officers Initiate Collaboration
On 5 and 6 October 2007, the LOC medical team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ met up with FIFA’S leading medical staff in Kimberley.
All kinds of medical matters ranging from LOC services to anti-doping measures and emergency plans were on the agenda. FIFA Chief Medical Officer Professor Jiri Dvorak stressed the importance of designated facilities during the final competition and the mediating role of the LOC Medical Officers in facilitating access to medical services for teams and delegations. In his closing remarks, Dr Michel D’Hooghe, chairman of the FIFA Sports Medical Committee, said he was impressed with the team appointed by LOC General Medical Officer Dr Victor Ramathesele: “Never have I seen such a high level of expertise and skill among the LOC medical officers. You will certainly make the 2010 FIFA World Cup not only a successful event but also a triumph for South Africa. I am looking forward to both working with you and deepening our friendship.”
