DENMARK
Previous FIFA Women’s World Cup appearances: 1991, 1995, 1999
All-time best: 1991 and 1995 FIFA Women’s World Cup quarter-finals
Coach: A former pro who played for Hungarian club Ferencvaros, among others, 36-year-old Kenneth Heiner-Moller guided Brondby’s women’s team to the double in 2005 before taking over as coach of the Danish women’s team last year.
Star player: 34-year-old Merete Pedersen has been capped a record 128 times by her country and is now back at her club of many years, Odense, after spells in Italy and Germany. Pedersen made her debut for Denmark in 1995 and has a knack of scoring important goals.
The team: Heiner-Moller believes that his team can hold their own against the best in the tournament in China. Denmark are unpredictable and on a good day can cause any opponent enormous problems.
