Saudi Arabians in Argentina

Thanks to an agreement between the Saudi Arabian ministry for youth and sport and the Argentinian ministry for sport, the Saudi Arabian U-17 national team recently held a two-week training camp in Buenos Aires. The team’s coach, Bandar Juithen, was delighted. “We are happy and proud to have been able to make this unforgettable trip,” he said. “We would like to thank the governments of Saudi Arabia and Argentina for presenting us with this extraordinary gift. It has been an amazing experience. The Argentinians have given us a wonderful welcome and looked after us very well. Our stay has been very valuable in football terms.” Surprisingly, the visitors were unbeaten during their stay in Argentina – a nation with a strong footballing pedigree thanks to two FIFA World Cup TM triumphs and five FIFA World Youth Championship (now FIFA U-20 World Cup) titles. After drawing with the hosts’ U-17 national team (1-1) and the U-17 team of leading club River Plate (0-0), the Saudi Arabians rounded off their trip with a 2-1 victory over the U-17s from second division side Defensores de Belgrano.
