German giants Borussia Dortmund signed Polish talent Jakub Blaszczykowski for 2.9 million euros in July. To date, however, the new acquisition from Krakow has failed to meet expectations. A German magazine believes it knows why: the past has caught up with the 21-year-old. Ten years ago, his father Zygmunt murdered his wife and the midfielder’s mother, Anna, a crime for which he was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was released two years ago and sources close to him are now claiming that Mr Blaszczykowski is seeking to re-establish contact with his son, who wants nothing to do with him, however. The murder left the young Blaszczykowski traumatised, and the events of the past have now resurfaced. The Dortmund player has also been saddened by the recent death of his beloved grandmother Felicja, who took him in and raised him following the death of his mother. “She is the most important person in the world for me,” said Blaszczykowski a few months ago.
