The number of international matches played by Hossam Hassan, a record in African football. Hassan, who is now 41, recently accepted his first managerial position. After playing for Egyptian giants Al Ahly for a remarkable 20 years, Hassan has now taken over at Egyptian rivals Al Masry. “Football is at the very centre of my life,” said Hassan. “It’s not possible for me to simply stop thinking about football.” Even the former striker himself is not yet sure whether he has actually called time on his playing career, admitting that, “maybe I’ll play for Al Masry. I haven’t decided yet.” One thing he does know, however, is that he would one day like to manage his country.
