Cyprus – First Step Towards Break Through

Football in Cyprus has been stifled by a blockade that has now been in place for more than 50 years, but the first step towards a breakthrough was recently taken at a historic meeting of high-ranking officials from FIFA and both associations in Zurich. With FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter in the chair, a Cyprus Football Association (CFA) delegation led by President Costakis Koutsokoumnis and a delegation representing the unofficial Turkish-Cypriot Football Association led by President Niyazi Okutan met at the Home of FIFA on 20 September. Talks were conducted in an open and productive atmosphere.
