The legendary Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion, Paraguay, has been renovated in readiness for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, with a particular effort being made to modernise the dressing rooms. “We are going to play host to nine South American national sides and we need dressing rooms that are fit to receive global football stars; our own players also deserve good treatment,” said Paraguay football association President Juan Angel Napout. The work included refurbishing and painting the stands (particularly the north and south stands), improving the media area and renovating the field of play. The reinauguration took place on 17 October as part of Paraguay’s qualifier against Uruguay.
