CONCACAF – Football News

Guatemala posted their first victory over Mexico in 38 years with a 3-2 win in an international friendly at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles on 17 October. A crowd of 42,350 saw Rigoberto Gomez open the scoring for Guatemala in the fifth minute, but Mexico struck back with two goals in a minute from Carlos Vela and Cesar Villaluz. In the second half, Guatemala’s Marvin Avila scored for the Chapines in the 64th and 73rd minute to end a 16-game winless streak against the Tricolores. Guatemala’s last victory over Mexico had come on 2 December 1969 during the CONCACAF Campeonato de Naciones (Nations Cup) in San Jose, Costa Rica (1-0).
