CONCACAF

On 27 July, Jamaica lost 2-1 to Ecuador in the final of the men’s under-20 football tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games. The reggae boyz became the first Caribbean team since Cuba in 1979 to win a silver medal at the event. Meanwhile, in the tournament’s play-off for third place, which was also played at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Mexico recorded a 1-0 victory over Bolivia to win the bronze medal. It was the second consecutive bronze for Mexico. Remarkably, the Mexicans have claimed a medal in the men’s football tournament of every Pan American Games since 1991 (silver in 1991 and 1995 followed by gold in 1999 as well as the bronze in 2003).
