Chavez presents honours

Venezuela did an outstanding job as hosts of the 2007 Copa America and the country’s President, Hugo Chavez, took advantage of the visit of FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter together with FIFA Executive Committee member and CONMEBOL President Nicolas Leoz and his deputy Eugenio Figueredo to honour the three top football dignitaries with the Order of Francisco de Miranda during a ceremony in Caracas. Chavez, meanwhile, was presented with a replica of the Copa America trophy. “The people of Venezuela played an instrumental part in the success of the 2007 Copa America,” said Blatter. “The event has firmly underlined the country’s organisational skills and warm hospitality.”
