CAF Confederation Africaine de Football

CAF was deeply shocked by the death of twelve football fans in a stampede in Zambia after a 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifying match in June. CAF ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. In a letter to the Zambian FA President, Teddy Mulonga, CAF President Issa Hayatou said: “Please accept my sincerest condolences with respect to the death of 12 fans who died after the Zambia v. Congo game on 2nd June 2007. I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the families who have lost ones and members of CAF Executive Committee join me in expressing our prayers to the Zambian football family.”
