Blatter and Bin Hammam in India

In April, Joseph S. Blatter visited India together with FIFA vice-president and Asian Football Confederation President Mohamed bin Hammam in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, Blatter and Bin Hammam received a rapturous welcome from 70,000 spectators at a derby match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. Following discussions with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Blatter and Bin Hammam traveled for the capital, New Delhi, for a meeting with Indian President Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The meeting focused on how football can be developed further in India as part of the “Win in India with India” programme that has been devised along the same lines as “Win in Africa with Africa”. To close their official trip to India, the representatives to world football’s governing body attended the opening ceremony of the new AIFF headquarters, which were financed by the FIFA Goal Programme.
