CONCACAF announced on 14 November 2007 that the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship would take place in Guatemala City. It will be the first time since 1996 that the CONCACAF tournament has been held in Guatemala. The Domo, which drew a total of 80,740 spectators on 12 matchdays during the 2000 FIFA Futsal World Championship, will stage the event in mid-2008 and three nations will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Brazil 2008.

Mexico will host the final round of the 2008 CONCACAF women’s Olympic qualifiers from 2 to 13 April. The six-team tournament will be held at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario in Chihuahua, with the top two teams qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. This will be the second ever final round of CONCACAF Olympic qualifiers, with the previous edition in Costa Rica seeing the USA and Mexico finishing first and second respectively and therefore qualifying for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The government of Cote d’lvoire recently honoured CAF President Issa Hayatou and CAF General Secretary Mustapha Fahmy for their contribution to the development of the game in Africa. The ceremony took place at the awards night organised by the association as part of the activities to mark the 50th anniversary of CAF on 16 October, and to honour individuals and organisations that have played a significant role in the development of football. Hayatou was presented with the Commandeur de I’Ordre National de la Cote d’lvoire whereas Fahmy received the Commandeur de I’Ordre de Merite Sportif de la Cote d’lvoire from Laurent Dona Fologo, the president of the economic and social council and a former minister of sport. Former national team star Laurent Pokou was named as Cote d’lvoire’s best player in the last 50 years.
